In their second meeting of the week, Kentwood and Tahoma High’s fastpitch teams battled, but in the end the result on Thursday was the same as on Tuesday with a 7-4 victory for the Bears.
Tahoma scored in each of the first three innings to a 5-0 lead.
Down 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh the Conquerors appeared to be putting together a rally and hung two more runs on the board on a Hannah Feist home run before the Bears defense shut it down.
Tahoma’s Jordan Walley hit her second home run of the week in the game. Sammii Jimenez pitched a complete game and picked up another win.
The victory helped Tahoma keep pace with league rival Kentlake — the teams shared the SPSL North crown in 2010 but have not yet played this season — as the Bears improved to 8-1 in league and second place in the North. Tahoma plays a non-league contest against Bothell at home on Friday.
Kentwood dropped to fifth place in the division at 5-4. The Conquerors take on the Trojans Friday.
In other South Puget Sound League North action, Kentlake took on Auburn at Game Farm Park Thursday afternoon, another re-match of a contest played Tuesday.
The Falcons came away with a 10-6 win over the Trojans.
Kentlake scored six runs in the first two innings. Auburn mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh as it scored four runs before Kentlake recorded the final out.
Erin Crowley went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs while Jessie Richardson also went 2-for-5 with three runs scored.
With the win Kentlake improved to 9-0 in league and remained in first place in the SPSL North. Kentlake takes on Mount Rainier on Friday.
