Way too Much collared Emancipated in deep stretch and notched a 1 ¾-length victory Thursday in the $12,100 Ashbaugh Beal Purse for older horses at Emerald Downs.
With Rick Frazier riding at 122 pounds, Way too Much ran one mile in 1 minute, 36 seconds on a wet-fast track and paid $5.60, $4.20 and $2.80. Nine-time Emerald Downs training champion Tim McCanna saddled the winner for owner Quadrun Farm LLC.
Bred in Kentucky by Tadahiro Hotehama, Way too Much won his second straight race and his seventh in 22 career starts. The 5-year-old son of Pleasant Tap earned $6,655 to increase his career mark to $74,518.
Emancipated, ridden by Kevin Krigger at 122 lbs., held second place and paid $5.80 and $3.80. The 5-year-old Washington-bred by Free At Last set fractions of 24 2/5, 47 4/5, 1:11 2/5 and 1:23 2/5, and led past mid-stretch before yielding the lead to Way too Much.
Whitney Bridge, Seth Martinez riding at 121 lbs., closed ground belatedly to finish third and paid $2.60. Connor’s Buddy, Skyrider and Inhoc Signo Vinces completed the order of finish. Classielyte was scratched earlier in the day.
Frazier rode two winners and leap-fogged Pedro Terrero for a 31-30 lead in the jockeys’ standings. Juan Gutierrez also rode a winner and is tied for second with 30 wins.
McCanna had two wins on the seven-race card and is tied with Charles Essex for third place at 14 wins apiece. Vann Belvoir leads the trainers’ standings with 23 wins.

Leonel Camacho Flores picked up his first win of the meet aboard Icwhatyourlookinat ($10) in the third race. The leading apprentice at Portland Meadows last winter, Flores rode one winner last season at Emerald Downs…Live racing continues 6 p.m. Friday with an eight-race card.
