Maddy Turek, a senior at Tahoma High, finished ninth at the district tennis tournament last weekend and is the West Central District alternate going into the state tournament this weekend.

Turek won her first match in the district singles tournament last friday in two sets, shutting out Madeline Otto of Gig Harbor High School.

Turek then lost in the quarterfinals to Jelena Vidovic of Union High School.

In the consolation bracket Turek defeated Mina Craig of Olympia and Lindsey Tyson of Todd Beamer for the ninth place finish.

The state tournament begins today at Columbia Basin Racquet Club and Richland High School in eastern Washington.

Turek is slated to compete in game two on Friday against Sally Park of Kamiak.
