Tahoma’s Brian Davis to coach all-star game | High School Sports

Davis will coach the East team in the May 11 All-Star Classic

Tahoma High School boys’ basketball coach Brian Davis will coach a team of all-star high school basketball players May 11 in the second annual West Coast All-Star Classic.

Davis, who finished his second season at Tahoma, will coach the East team with Patrick Washington, who coaches Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas. The West squad will be coached by Chris O’Conner of Bellevue High School and Sharrief Metover of southern California’s Long Beach Poly.

Before taking the job at Tahoma, Davis served as head coach for two years at Kentwood. He has an overall record of 65-35, with a league title and consecutive trips to the district playoffs at Tahoma.

“It’s pretty humbling to be selected,” Davis said in a Tahoma press release.

Davis said in the release that he is eager to spend time with some of the best high school players in the country and then take what he learns back to his own team.

The all-star game will be played at Bellevue College and raises funds for the Rainier Beach Community Empowerment Fund and the Urban Family Center. Current and former NBA players such as Gary Payton, Nate Robinson and Jamal Crawford have endorsed the event, along with new Washington State University coach Ernie Kent.

Players selected for the game are preparing to move on to major college programs, including Gonzaga, Michigan, Washington, Washington State, Minnesota, Connecticut, Georgetown, Stanford, South Carolina, Southern California, New Mexico, Harvard, Missouri, Louisville, Portland, Wyoming and California.
