Tahoma wins meet against Kentlake | Track and field

A little bit of rain didn't stop the track athletes from Tahoma and Kent schools from competing on Thursday, March 29. The meets ended with a victory for Tahoma, Kentwood and Kent Meridian.

TAHOMA

The Bears boys and girls were both able pull off another league meet victory against Kentlake, with the boys winning 84-52 and the girls 124.5-25.5.

Boys

In the boys running events, Aaron Davis took first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.31 seconds, while also taking first in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet. Junior Jacob Larsen secured first in the 800 with a time of two minutes 3.18 seconds, a 9 second improvement over his previous personal record. Sophomore Riley won the mile race at 4:45.86, while junior James Dagley won the two mile at 10:15.51.

In the field events, Bears sophomore Jordan Thompson took dual first places in the 110 and 300 hurdles, at 16.28 and 43.18 respectively. In discus, junior Dallas Hayes won with a throw of 130 feet 11 inches. Senior Joshua Benson won the javelin with a toss of 134 feet, seven inches, an eight foot improvement over his season PR last year. Bradon LeBeau won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 6.5 inches, three feet and one and a half inch further than his previous personal record.

Girls

On the girls side, the Bears took first in every event besides the 200 meters which was won by Falcon junior Marisa Lytle with a time of 28.56. Sophomore Danielle Agoh won the 100 meters at 12.78. Olivia Ranft walked away from the meet with triple first places in the 400 meters, the long jump and the triple jump, with a time of 1:01.5 and jumps of 15 feet, three inches and 32 feet, 5.5 inches respectively.

Running the 800 meters for the first time didn’t stop junior Elizabeth Oosterhout from taking first with a time of 2:28.38. She also took first in the two mile at 11:35.60.

Freshman Delaney Tiernan won the mile a 5:33.1.

Junior Savanna Haverfield took first once again in the 100 hurdles at 16.22, as did senior Cassidy Richmond in the 300 hurdles, crossing the finish line at 48.99. In the 4X100 and 4X400 relays, the Bears team won at 52.19 and 4:20.42 respectively. In the field events, Kylie Eager won the shot put after throwing it 33 feet and four inches. In discus, senior Nadine Hyde threw it 110 feet, four inches.

Junior Rosie Lind won the javelin after throwing it 91 feet, three inches. Senior Kayla Kershner took home two first places in the high jump and the pole vault, jumping four feet, four inches, and vaulting seven feet, six inches.

KENTLAKE

Senior Trevor Davidson took first in the 200 meters at 23.98, while fellow senior Dakota Lobdell managed to also take first place in the 400, crossing the line at 54.35.

The Falcons 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams were able to outrun the Bears at 45.19 and 3:46.12 respectively. Falcons who performed well in the field events included Matt Dispenza, who led the high jumpers with a leap of six feet, and Malik Arrington, who won the triple jump at 36 feet, 1.5 inches.

KENTWOOD

The Conqueror boys and girls won its first league meet against Mt. Rainier, with the boys scoring 104-32 and the girls 92-49.

Boys

In the boys running events, Tre Thomas won the 100 meters at 11.76, a personal record, whole sophomore Ivan Semerenko won the 200 with a time of 24.14.

Senior Danny Lunder finished first in both the 800 meters and the mile, crossing the finish line at 2:07.78 and 4:42.76 respectively. Junior Dasan Telford won the two mile at 10:29.26. Sophomore Terence Grady won the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.86, as well as the discus with a throw of 123 feet, breaking his personal record by four feet.

The Conks 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams both took first with times of 46.3 and 3:47.12 respectively. In the field events, senior Greg Tullio won the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, two inches. Throwing for the first time, junior Ryan Dozier won the javelin after throwing it 89 feet.

In high jump, sophomore Brandon Sytsma won after jumping five feet, six inches, tying his current personal record. Freshman Bailey Paladin won the long jump at 17 feet, seven inches, while sophomore Nikki Hadzimuratovic won the triple jump at 39 feet, 11.75 inches.

 

Girls

Top performers among the Conk girls included Madelayne Varela, who finished the meet with three first places in the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the long jump. She ran a time of 13 in the 100, 27.81 in the 200 and jumped 16 feet, eight inches.

In the 800 meters, senior Megan McNally won with a time of 2:35.32. In the 100 and 300 hurdles, sophomore Sarah Toeaina won with times of 16.88 and 50.61.

The Conks 4X100 relay team won with a combined time of 53.41. Their 4×200 relay team also took first with a time of 1:51.06. In the field, the girls took first in every event except for the triple jump. Senior Alyx Toeaina took first in the shot put, as well as the discus, with throws of 38 feet, 10.25 inches and 119 feet, six inches respectively. Kacie Seims won the javelin with a throw of 119 feet, 10 inches, breaking her old personal record by six inches. Junior Carly Horn won the high jump after leaping five feet.

 

 

The Royals boys and girls concluded the meet with a solid victory against Kentridge. The boys won 96.33-48.66, while the girls won 83-66.

 

KENT MERIDIAN

BOYS

In the running events, senior Jarey Suiter came in first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.64. In the 200 meters, senior B.J. Phillips took first, crossing the finish line at 23.7.  Senior Teddy Besrat took first in the mile with a time of 4:43.77, breaking his personal record by less than half a second. Junior Edson Zaldivar won the two mile at 10:47.94, almost an eight second improvement of his previous personal record. In the 110 hurdles, junior Abu Kamara won with a time of 14.79. Their 4X100 relay team took first with a time of 44.81, a mere .07 second ahead of the Chargers.

In the field events, senior Ronald Raagia won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, nine inches, while fellow senior Boogie Yuhashi won the discus 124 feet, four inches, breaking his personal record by almost 13 feet. Senior Armann Brar won the high jump after leaping five feet, six inches. Junior Josh Smith won the pole vault after vaulting 11 feet, six inches. Junior Henry Hammond won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, nine inches, as well as the triple jump at 40 feet, 11.75 inches, a new personal record.

GIRLS

Sophomore Kariona Micks won both the 100 and 200 meters with a time of 13.28 and 27.62 respectively. Junior Stephanie O’Hara won the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.34. Jessy O’Hara won the 800 meters at 2:39:84. Senior Alexia Martin won the mile with a time of 5:34.58. Sophomore Ruby Vick won the two mile, crossing the finish line at 12:45.56. Their 4X100, 4X200 and 4X400 relay team took first with a time of 52.31, 1:52.38 and 4:22.08 respectively.  Junior Chloe Watson won the high jump and the long jump after jumping four feet, 10 inches and 14 feet, 7.5 inches respectively.

 

KENTRIDGE

BOYS

In the 400 meters, senior Reggie Collins won with a time of 52.57, while junior Sterling Bath won the 800 with a time of 2:03.87. Senior Kaid Tipton won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.5. The 4X400 relay team managed to take first after crossing the finish line at 3:36.46, .36 second ahead of the Royals team. Newcomer and sophomore Devon Smith won the javelin after throwing it 106 feet, two inches.

GIRLS

In the hurdles, Lexi Klinkenberg won the 100 and 300 hurdles at 16:36 and 47:25 respectively. In the field, freshman Kiki Gilbert took first in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, 1.5 inches, while junior Raziel Tolentino won the discus and the javelin after throwing 78 feet, one inch and 64 feet, seven inches respectively. Sophomore Joyce Lin won the pole vault after vaulting seven feet. Senior Aurora Varela won the triple jump after jumping 31 feet, 4.75 inches.
