After its opening round win, the Tahoma softball team’s run in state ended without any medals or trophies.

The Bears fell in the quarterfinals on May 30 to eventual state runner-up Walla Walla, 5-1, and were handily defeated 19-4 by Richland in the consolation bracket later in the day. Tahoma finished its regular season undefeated and as SPSL 4A North champions.

Puyallup, which won the SPSL 4A South with a 15-1 record, defeated Walla Walla for the state championship on May 31.

Tahoma head coach Tom Milligan said he was happy with what his squad produced at state — especially the seniors.

“It’s a very special time for kids in their sport to compete at state and we have fulfilled a lot of goals as a team between 2011-2014 in Spokane,” he said in an email. “The memories will last a lifetime and I can only hope that we have another opportunity to compete on the state’s biggest stage.”
