Tahoma High’s Sammii Jimenez signed on the dotted line Monday afternoon.
Jimenez, a senior pitcher for the Bears fastpitch team, committed to play on scholarship at Texas Southern University located in Houston, Texas.
She celebrated with teammates, friends and family at Tahoma as she signed the paperwork.
Jimenez plans to major in education. She hopes to teach kindergarten.
“They have the major that I’m looking for,” she said. “It also had a family feel and I love the atmosphere.”
Texas Southern is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the SWAC.
“I went down there in January… and I loved it,” she said. “The weather was perfect. I loved it.”
Jimenez is the fourth Tahoma fastpitch player to sign on to play college ball.
This group of seniors have just one loss in the South Puget Sound League North Division this season and won a share of the SPSL North Division in 2010.
Jimenez pitched in a victory last spring over division rival Kentlake that was Tahoma’s first over the Falcons since that school opened more than a decade ago.
The Bears starting pitcher for three seasons, Jimenez is also solid at the plate, having hit .423 as a junior, collecting 18 singles and 12 doubles while striking out just five times.
In 2010 she was 16-5 overall on the mound and earned First Team SPSL North as a pitcher.
Co-captain Emily Miller said at the beginning of the season the team could count on Jimenez every game.
“Sammii has the confidence to carry us this year,” Miller told the Reporter in March.
