Tahoma High’s Derek Eager breaks record in javelin | Track and Field

It was the Derek Eager show Saturday at the Kent-Meridian Invitational track and field meet. The Tahoma High senior dominated in three field events, breaking a state record for new rules javelin and he was named “Male field athlete of the meet.”

Eager won the javelin with a throw of 218 feet, 7 inches, smashing the old record of 212-7.

Along with the javelin Eager took the shot put with a toss of 53-05 and the discus hitting 175-03.

The Tahoma boys team finished third with a score of 61 out of 21 teams.

The Tahoma girls team showed they had the right stuff by winning the invitational with a score of 138 out of 19 teams. Kent-Meridian was closest in second with 68.5

The freshman and sophomore girls also won as a team with a score of 25.

A highlight for the varsity girls was senior Tate Latimer who won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.35 seconds and the 300 in 46.13.

Latimer has signed to run for the University of Washington next year.

The girls 3,200 relay team won in 10:06.22. Lindsay Deck, Chelsea Olson, Julianna Mock and Blair Slater ran for the team.

Nadine Hyde took the discus with a throw of 113-02.

Brianna Walton won the triple jump reaching 36-04.75.

Kentlake High sophomore Laura Rayfield won the varsity high jump clearing 5-0.
