Bears blown out 19-5 in season opener against Puyallup

Emerald Ridge High School junior Amelia Heckert scored just 2:06 into the game igniting a five-goal run as Puyallup never looked back in a 19 – 5 girls high school lacrosse win over Tahoma, Tuesday at Orting Middle School.

The win opened the 2014 Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association season for the Puyallup squad, which draws student-athletes from Puyallup, Emerald, Ridge, Glacier View and Rogers High Schools.

Tahoma finally answered when Sophie Wulfing scored at 17:40 of the half to make it 5 – 1. Tahoma added two more on goals by junior Madison Fabbie over the next three minutes to make it 5 – 3. Following a three-goal Puyallup run, the Bears added another two closing out the half at 11-5.

In the second, Puyallup added eight more to cruise to the win.

Tahoma (0-1-0) next faces Graham-Kapowsin (1-0-0), Thursday, March 13 in a 5:30 p.m. start at Tahoma High School in Covington.
