The Tahoma baseball team ended the season with a win and loss at the West Central District tournament Saturday.
After finishing third in the South Puget Sound League, 4A Division, the Bears lined up against Bellarmine Prep in the first game at the district tournament, played at Heidelberg Park in Tacoma.
Tahoma won the game 2-0, led by a shutout pitching performance by Chris Kerwood.
The right-handed thrower notched six strikeouts, gave up two hits and three walks in a complete game.
When Bellarmine was able to get the bat on the ball, the Bears defense came up big repeatedly to seal the win.
In the first two innings, shortstop Taylor Smart showed his stuff in the hole with two impressive plays.
In the seventh with Bellarmine threatening, Justin Cloud reeled in an over the shoulder fly in the outfield to end the game.
Smart hit 2-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Tyler Watkins also hit 2-4.
Bellarmine walked the Bears home run threat, Jerad Casper, rather than allow him to swing away.
In the second game, Tahoma lost 9-4 to Gig Harbor in a game where the Bears led until the top of the seventh.
Casper started for Tahoma on the hill and went four innings. He was relieved by lefty Spencer Hobson, who picked up the loss.
The highlight for the Bears came in the bottom of the third on a 2-1 count when Casper took a belt-high fastball over the fence for three runs.
But Gig Harbor kept knocking at the door, spraying hits and picking up a run in the fifth.
In the top of the seventh Spencer Manjarrez took it deep and broke the game open for Gig Harbor.
Casper hit 1-3 at the dish and Jordan Johansen 2-3 with a double.
Tahoma ended the season with a 15-8 record overall and a 10-6 record in the SPSL.
