SLIDE SHOW: Weekend at the 22nd Annual NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways

Drag racing fans got their fill of nitro-powered competition this past weekend during the 22nd Annual NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways.

Under sunny skies, the thunder and smoke of the races rattled fans’ bones, filled their nostrils with the acrid smell of nitro and beat on their eardrums, even those protected by headsets or ear plugs.

Mike Edwards won the pro stock category, inching closer to Jeg Coughlin, Jr., who is the two time defending champ and currently leads the standings. During the first round on Sunday Edwards ran a track record 6.55 second elapsed time as well as a track record speed of more than 210 mph.

Antron Brown won in top fuel, putting up back to back wins in the long car and getting him one step closer to sweeping the Western Swing races of Denver-Seattle-Sonoma, as well as extending his points lead in the category to 137.

Tim Wilkerson took home the hardware in the funny car category in his first final of the season. Wilkerson moved up from seventh place in the funny car standings to fifth with the win.
