The 4A state track meet came to a close Saturday at Mount Tahoma High with medals and an excellent showing for all competitors from the area.
The Kentlake and Kentwood boys came in tied for 13th as teams, with each school scoring 19.
The boys brought home two gold medals.
Kentwood’s Steve Warner was the state’s best in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.23.
Kentlake star Zach Smith took the top crown in the triple jump, reaching 48 feet, 1 inch.
Smith also ran eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.26.
Smith did not repeat this year as champion in the long jump, losing out to Puyallup’s Justing Veltung. Smith came down at 23-8 for the silver and Veltung reached 24-5.
Kentwood’s Tim Pettit took the bronze in the 800 in 1:53.20.
The Conquerors’ 1,600 relay team took seventh with a time of 3:25.60.
In the field for Kentwood, Cody Fishel tied for 11th in the high jump clearing 6-04.
Sammy Brooks from Kentwood came in third in the mixed discus throw wheelchair at 15-02.75.
For the Tahoma boys, Casey Campbell ran 13th in the 3,200 in 9:39.96.
Derek Eager was 10th in the discus reaching 147-05 and sixth in the javelin at 198-06.
The Tahoma girls came in seventh as a team with a score of 28.
Junior hurdler Tate Latimer took the bronze in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.88 and she also ran third in the 300 hurdles in 44.71.
Savannah Johnson competed in both the field and track.
She took the bronze in the triple jump reaching 37-10.25 inches and fourth in the long jump, 17-10.25. Johnson also ran fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.0.
Molli Bahlenhorst ran 14th in the 1,600 in 5:16.14 and Julianna Mock was 11th in the 3,200 in 11:32.58.
Bianca Walton was 12th in the triple jump reaching 34-09.
The Kentwood girls came in 20th as a team with a score of 13.
Holly DeHart ran fifth in the 200 dash in 25.19 and Dana Wareham was sixth in the 400 in 59.0.
Kailey Ulland was 16th in the finals of the 3,200 coming in at 11:50.6
The Kentwood 1,600 relay team came in third with a time of 4:00.48.
In the field, freshman Alyx Toeaina came in 12th in the shot put with a throw of 35-10.
For the Kentlake, Brianne Gould, a senior, was 14th in the pole vault clearing 9-06.
