One down, one to go for Tahoma’s fastpitch team.
After losing to Kentlake Thursday night, Tahoma bounced back Friday afternoon with a 4-2 win over Thomas Jefferson, the only other team its lost to all season.
With that, Tahoma needs to win just one more game over Mount Rainier to force a one game playoff to break the tie for first place in the South Puget Sound League 4A North Division.
Through four innings, though, neither Jefferson or Tahoma scored.
Then the Bears got on the board in dramatic fashion thanks to Jordan Walley’s two run shot over the center field fence. Tahoma’s senior pitcher Sammii Jimenez was on second base when Walley hit her fifth home run of the season.
Next up to bat, Kiley Dunn hit a bloop single then Courtney Visaya followed that up with a bunt single.
Tahoma’s final two runs were plated during Emily Miller’s at bat when Dunn scored on a wild pitch and Visaya scored once Miller put her bat on the ball. In all, seven Bears batters stepped up to the plate in the top of the fifth.
It wouldn’t be a Tahoma fastpitch game lately without a little drama and Jefferson provided that in the bottom of the seventh.
After the Raiders first batter was hit by a pitch, the Bears gave up a pair of singles before Allie Crowe walked with the bases loaded and two outs, sending in Jefferson’s second run.
Jefferson’s final batter hit a weak grounder and the threat, along with the game, was over.
Walley was 1-for-3 in the game while Jimenez was 2-for-2 with a run scored, a pair of singles and a stolen base. Jimenez also pitched a complete game with six strikeouts for the victory in the circle.
Tahoma improved to 13-2 in league and 15-2 overall with one game left to play. The match up with Mount Rainier is set for 4 p.m. Saturday at Tahoma Junior High.
If Tahoma wins this final regular season game it will face Kentlake at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Kent Service Club Park for the SPSL North crown.
