Tahoma’s bats were white hot Thursday.
In the first two games of the South Puget Sound League tournament Tahoma scored 30 runs combined in a pair of five inning victories over Todd Beamer and Rogers.
Emma Blauser drew first blood for Beamer when she smacked a solo shot off Tahoma’s Jordan Walley to give the Titans a 1-0 lead over the Bears.
But, then the hitting began for Tahoma.
Emily Miller, second baseman for the Bears, led off with a home run over the center field fence. Two batters later Shelby Carter got on base with a single. Then Lisa Maulden, Sammii Jimenez and Jordan Walley had back-to-back-to-back doubles to drive in three more runs.
With that Tahoma took a 4-1 lead and never looked back, putting Beamer away 13-3, with Jimenez smashing a pair of home runs and Miller putting another one over the fence before the game was over.
Walley picked up the win in the circle for Tahoma. Miller was 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and a stolen base in the game while Jimenez was 3-for-3 with a pair of long balls and four RBIs.
Hayley Beckstrom drove in the first run for Tahoma when she hit a single in the top of the first inning against Rogers which sent in Miller.
For half an inning, though, Rogers had the lead as it scored three runs with two outs as Riley Whispel drove in two runs with a double to left field, followed by Tess Dixon’s RBI double to center field.
From there, though, it was all Tahoma as it put Rogers away 17-5.
The Bears took the lead back with a three run second inning to go up 4-3 thanks to Miller’s third long ball of the day. They put three more runs on the board in the top of the third thanks in large part to a Jimenez two run homer with Maulden on base after she hit a double to the outfield fence.
Tahoma had a 9-4 lead when it exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth to put Rogers away. The Bears sent 12 batters to the plate Breanna West, Miller and Beckstrom had two plate appearances each in the fifth, with West getting hits both times including a two run double that went over the left fielder’s head.
Jimenez, who also picked up the complete game victory in the circle, finished 2-for-4 at the plate with the home run, a double and three RBIs. Miller, meanwhile, had her best game of the season in the batter’s box going 5-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.
Tahoma gets Spanaway Lake, the No. 1 seed out of the SPSL South Division, in the league semi-final. On the other side of the bracket, Kentlake awaits Puyallup, which beat Kentwood 3-2 in the first game and Emerald Ridge in the second game to earn its spot in the semi.
Kentwood lost its second game to Thomas Jefferson, 10-0, and will play Todd Beamer, which lost 13-3 to Auburn Riverside in its second game.
Both semi-final games start at 4 p.m. Friday while Kentwood’s game will be at 6 p.m. at Kent Service Club Ballfields.
