Seattle Game held off heavily favored Mizzen You for a neck victory Thursday in the featured Ashbaugh Beal Purse for fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

Seattle Game held off heavily favored Mizzen You for a neck victory Thursday in the featured Ashbaugh Beal Purse for fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

Making her first start for trainer Frank Lucarelli and owners Roy and Ellie Schaefer, Seattle Game ran six furlongs in 1 minute, 10 1/5 seconds on a fast track and paid $8.20, $2.60 and $2.40. Francisco Duran rode the winner, who had been claimed for $10,000 in her previous start Aug. 1.

Mizzen You, the 1-to-2 betting favorite ridden by Kevin Krigger, raced in second place throughout, but was unable to get by Seattle Game in the lane. The runner-up, now first second or third in all six starts this season, paid $2.10 and $2.10.

Jadie Cahill, ridden by Gallyn Mitchell, was two lengths back in third place and returned $3. K Lea Road, Roxy Skylar and Nina Win completed the order of finish.

Seattle Game sprinted to the lead in the opening strides, set fractions of 22 1/5, 45 2/5 and 57 2/5 while maintaining a one-length advantage. She still led by a length past mid-stretch and staved off Mizzen You in a furious finish.

A 4-year-old Washington-bred by Seattle Shamus, Seattle Game has a 5-2-3 record in 16 starts with earnings of $38,224.

Ron Crockett became the first owner to win 200 races at Emerald Downs when Late Night Chase ($4.80) prevailed by a nose over Dream Season in the nightcap. Crockett will be represented by Davos in Sunday’s $250,000 Longacres Mile (GIII)…Leading rider Ricky Frazier rode three winners—his 10th day at the meet with at least three wins—and opened an 88-65 lead over Juan Gutierrez in the jockeys’ standings. Frazier’s night included a $28.80 mutuel on Chena Springs in the fourth race…Trainer Jim Penney saddled a cold exacta in the fifth with winner Five Star Promise ($10.60) and runner-up Courageous Son. The $1 Penney exacta paid $29…Live racing continues Friday with first post at 6 p.m.
