Ricky Ricky rallied through an opening inside and notched a neck victory over More Wine Won in Saturday’s feature race for 3-year-olds at Emerald Downs.
Under a perfect ride by Robert Burney, Ricky Ricky ran 5 ½ furlongs in 1 minute, 3 1/5 seconds and paid $25.60, $12.40 and $4.60. Debbie Van Horne trains the Oregon-bred gelding for owners John and Laurie Ansell.
More Wine Won, an 18-1 long shot ridden by Ricky Frazier, overcame a poor start and was flying late to take second place. The runner-up paid $11.40 and $4.60.
Newfound Gold, the 7-5 favorite, was the winner of a three-horse duel for the lead, but tired late and finished third. Ridden by Seth Martinez, Newfound Gold paid $2.40 for show.
Burney rode the late daily double—Ricky Ricky and Mocha Lena ($15.80)—and is up to seventh place in the jockeys’ standings. Frazier and Inoel Beato are tied for first with 10 wins apiece, while Gallyn Mitchell, Juan Gutierrez and Troy Stillwell are tied for third at nine wins each.

Congratulations to Monique Snowden for her maiden training victory with Snow On the River ($17.60) in Saturday’s first race. It was only the second start for Snowden, whose husband Dennis Snowden is among the region’s most accomplished exercise riders.
The maiden Brickyardtradition wore down 9-10 favorite Seven Torrents in deep stretch for a stunning two-length victory in the $26,600 Oregon Derby on closing day at Portland Meadows. Trained by W.L. McDaniel and ridden by Marijo Terleski, Brickyardtradition ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:52.16 and paid $39.60. The son of Olmodavar was beaten 25 lengths at 62-1 odds in his previous start last month at Santa Anita.
