The first week of conference play for the Kentlake Falcons and Kentwood Conquerors resulted in one loss and one win. And the Tahoma Bears finished its final week of non conference play with a win.
Kentlake
The Falcons kicked off the first week of conference play facing Kent-Meridian at French Field on Friday.
Kent-Meridian started the game by scoring first and the Royals led 24-0 going into halftime.
The Falcons got on the board late in the fourth quarter after a 32 yard field goal by sophomore Tyler Padilla.
With Kentlake down 37-3, the Falcons scored the final points of the game with a touchdown.
The Falcons score came on an eight yard run by sophomore Micah Vaifale.
However, the two late scores weren’t enough and Kentlake lost 37-9.
The Falcons are 0-1 in conference play and 2-2 overall.
Kentlake travels to Federal Way to play Todd Beamer at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.
Kentwood
The Conks opened conference play with a 41-10 over its rival the Kentridge Chargers.
Despite losing, Kentridge got on the board first with a field goal in the first quarter.
The Chargers led at the half 10-6.
But Kentwood came out of the locker room strong and never looked back.
The Conks scored 35 unanswered points in the second half.
Kentwood’s quarterback Brian Campbell went 12-17 for 151 yards and one touchdown.
The Conks leading rusher of the game was Isaiah Williams, who ran for 126 yards on 20 carries and scored one touchdown.
Running back Kaleb Swain finished the game for the Conks with two receptions for 67 yards.
Swain scored one touchdown for Kentwood in the win.
Kentwood sits in second place in the South Puget Sound League 4A Northeast division.
The Conks are undefeated with a 1-0 conference record and 4-0 overall.
Kentwood travels to Tahoma High School to face the Bears at 7 p.m. Friday.
Tahoma
The Bears hosted Decatur and won Friday 28-21.
Tahoma scored first with a one yard run from senior running back Jerome Woods.
Down 7-0 entering the second quarter, the Gators took the lead, thanks in part to multiple Bears fumbles, with two touchdowns.
Decatur led 14-7 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Woods scored two more touchdowns for the Bears, giving them a 21-14 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Decatur tied the game at 21 in the final quarter.
But Tahoma answered with a score of its own on a one yard quarterback keeper by junior Amandre Williams.
Williams finished the game going 19-25 for 171 yards.
The Bears’ lead rusher of the game was Marvis Bailey, Jr. with 64 yards on 15 carries.
Caleb Brown had 53 receiving yards on three catches for Tahoma.
Brown also had an interception.
Tahoma has not played a conference game yet and are 3-1 overall.
The Bears first conference game of the season comes at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts Kentwood.
