Local players help ICE soccer team cruise to victory in tournament

The South County Football Club ’91 ICE won the U-18 boys division of the 2009 Blast Off Soccer Tournament the weekend of Aug. 7-9 in Federal Way .

During the first two days of the tournament, the ICE played three games, tying one and winning two, while giving up one goal. This performance put them into the final on Sunday when they faced the home town Federal Way Thunder ‘91 Hornets.

After falling behind by a goal the ICE came back to win the game 3-2 and ended the tournament as undefeated champions.

Earlier this summer the ICE traveled to Yakima to play in the Yakima Classic Tournament. In the Classic the ICE played in the high-school division, which included players a year older.

The ICE were also able to battle their way to the championship game in Yakima, but fell to a local U-19 team, the Sun City Strikers ’90, by a score of 3-2.

The ICE are coached by Gerald Carrell, Bryan Shiraishi, and Ben Hamadi. The team is made up of 17 year olds from Maple Valley, Renton, Kent, Covington, and Federal Way and is part of the South County Football Club.

A number of local players are on the roster including Paul Bachman, Zachary Carrell, Tanner Dunn, Joe Flynn and Henry Lowe from Tahoma High; Justin Blair, Jerel Henderson, Anthony Hiner, and Cory Shiraishi of Kentlake High and Cole Morgan, Trey Morgan, and David Parmenter of Kentwood High.
