Update: Federal Way won its second consecutive 4A boys state championship beating Kentwood 66-54 Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
The Conks played the Eagles tough, leading for much of the game with relentless defense and scoring from Rayvaughn Bolton, 18, and Darius Lubom.
In the second half Federal Way’s Ferron Flavors poured in 12 points for a total of 20, Christian Jones hit 10 for a total of 18 and Jalen McDaniels hurt the Conks in the paint hitting 10, seven in the second half.
Federal Way won the battle of the boards 35-24.
The Conks shot 41.7 percent, 25 percent 3s and 62.5 percent free throws.
The Eagles shot 46. 2 percent, 28.6 for 3s and 73.7 from the line.
Update: The Conks lead the Eagles 29-25 at the half.
Kentwood’s Rayvaughn Bolton is the leading scorer with 14.
Ferron Flavors and Christian Jones both have eight for the Eagles.
Rebounding is split with Kentwood as a team grabbing 15 and the Eagles 14. The Conks have 12 defensive boards and three offensive. The Eagles have nine defensive and five offensive.
Conks are contesting every shot and fighting for position under the basket effectively.
The Eagles will be tough down the stretch, as the team was last night against Gonzaga.
The Kentwood boys basketball team takes on the Federal Way Eagles at about 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Tacoma Dome.
Kentwood beat Curtis last night 66-59 in the semifinals.
Federal Way beat Gonzaga Prep 46-44 with a last second shot.
Coach Blake Solomon said the team, “Our guys just stuck with it, through everything and finished the game.”
Darius Lubom lead the scoring with 21. Curtis did not have an answer for Lubom.
Lubom said after battling through the Issaquah game in the first round the team was sure it could go all the way.
“We had all the confidence in the world,” Lubom said after the game. “We knew we could do this.”
