It was a track and field invitational party May 1 and local athletes showed they are ready for the run to state.
• Boys track and field
Tahoma High senior Derek Eager dominated in three field events at the Shoreline Invitational at Shoreline Stadium.
He took the shot put with a toss of 55 feet, 6.5 inches while the discus reached 187 feet, boosting him to the top of the state rankings.
Eager easily took the javelin event with a throw of 211-9. He has the top toss in the state with the javelin at 229-5 set April 7 at the Pasco Invitational.
Eager has signed a letter of intent to compete at UCLA next year.
The Tahoma boys finished sixth as a team at Shoreline with a score of 31.
North Central took first with 51.
The Kentwood boys took 10th with a score of 23.
Leading the way for the Conks was Tim Petit winning the 800 meters in 1 minute, 53.93 seconds.
The Kentlake boys came in 43rd.
• Girls track and field
The girls teams attended the Lake Washington Invitational at Lake Washington High in Kirkland.
Kentwood soared to the top with a score of 58.78.
Speedster Holly DeHart took first in two events, the 100 meters in 12.29 and the 200 in a state best time of 24.85.
The Conquerors won the 800-meters relay with Aiesha Goodlow, DeHart, Quincie Proctor-Guyton and Dana Wareham in 1:45.19.
The Tahoma girls team finished fifth with 37 points.
Leading the way was University of Washington-bound Tate Latimer winning the 100-meters hurdles in 15.01.
Lauren Clawson won the 1,600 in 5:09.89 and Julianna Mock the 3,200 in 11:34.69.
The Bears 400-meters relay team took the top time in 50.23. Running for Tahoma was Kassie Jensen, Cassidy Richmond, Paige Hammock and Mande McKinney.
