Kentlake senior tennis player Dennis Welch qualified as the second alternate for the state tournament after a seventh place finish in the district tournament on Oct. 31.
Welch defeated Kentwood freshman Andrew Bouparath in the consolation bracket for the seventh place finish.
Results from other area district qualifiers:
SINGLES
• Davis Galgano of Tahoma lost his first two matches to Ryan Adams, of Olympia, and Kane Vu from Bellarmine Prep.
• Bouparath dropped Paul Wasson of Spanaway Lake and lost to Olympia’s Jamie Bautista in the quarterfinals. He defeated Michael Mehlman, of Curtis, in the consolation bracket and lost to Patrick Spieker, of Gig Harbor, and Welch.
• Welch knocked out Mehlman and lost to Callan Peterson, of Stadium. In consolation, he beat Wasson, lost to Adams and beat Bouparath.
DOUBLES
• Garrett Stewart/Daniel Tanaka, of Kentwood, lost to Olympia’s Will Berghoff/Kyle Wooten and Robbie Bernovich/Tyler Mick, from Stadium.
• Shaun Fisher/Jacob Sherren, of Kentwood, lost to Thomas Beaner’s Max Dalrymple/Ben Arata. In consolations, they defeated Tyler Andrews/Kepe Bonner, of Mount Rainier, and lost to Ryan Meredith/Rajiv Raina, from Kentridge.
• Jacob Schaefer/Alex Hicker, of Kentwood, lost to Meredith/Raina. In consolations, they beat Connor Herriford/Jackson Hope, of Puyallup, and lost to Dalrymple/Arata.
