Kent Meridian boys take first at invite, Kentwood girls finish second | Track and field

The Kent Meridian boys track team finished first out of 33 teams with 56.5 points at the Kent-Meridian Invite on Saturday, March 31. The Kentridge boys took second with 43 points. Kentwood girls took second out of 27 teams with 66 points, losing only to Auburn Riverside's 85 points.

KENT MERIDIAN

BOYS

Junior Abu Karama took second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.96, narrowly losing to Chargers senior Kaid Tipton by .03 second. He also took sixth in the 300 hurdles, finishing with a time of 40.84.

In the 4X200 relay the Royals took second, with Henry Hammond, B.J. Phillips, Josh Smith and Abu Kamara running a combined time of 1:34.19.

Cartex Green, Jarey Suiter, B.J. Phillips and Henry Hammond formed the 4X400 relay team, which took third at 3:29.97. Junior Josh Smith secured first place in the pole vault after vaulting 12 feet, six inches, while fellow Royals juniors Jonathan Hanson and Alec Moss took fifth and sixth after sharing the same vault of 10 feet, six inches.

Individually, junior Henry Hammond got fourth place in the triple jump after jumping 40 feet, nine inches.

GIRLS

Junior Stephanie O’Hara took fifth with a time of one minute and 1.43 second. Senior Alexia Martin tok fifth in the two mile, crossing the finish line at 11:44.30. The Royals 4X100, 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams all took fifth.

Their 4X100 team, comprised of Jenica Rogers, Kariona Micks, Stephanie O’Hara and Deedra Patterson, ran a combined time of 52.62.

Their 4X200 relay team had Sarah Toeaina, Amari Bradley, Megan McNally and Madelayne Verela running a combined time of 1:51.21. The 4X400 relay team members included Alexia Martin, Stephanie O’Hara, Sara Madden and Jessy O’Hara running a time 4:16.17.

In the 4X800 relay, Allyson Reaney, Ruby Virk, Alexia Martin and Jessy O’Hara took third after running a combined time of 10:39.81. Senior Chelsea Muskelly took second in the high jump after jumping four feet, 10 inches.

KENTRIDGE

BOYS

Junior Sterling Bath secured first in the mile with a time of 4:26.49. Senior Talon Abernathy took second in the two mile with a time of 9:44.08. Senior Kaid Tipton took first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.93, narrowly beating Royals junior Abu Kamara by .03 second. Senior Reggie Collins beat out the competition in the 300 hurdles to take first with a time of 39.37.

GIRLS

Senior Molly Shiroshi took fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.25. Sophomore Lexi Klinkenberg took fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.05.

KENTWOOD

BOYS

Senior Danny Lunder took sixth in the 800 meters and the mile with a time of 2:00.35 and 4:30.01 respectively. The Conks 4X800 relay team, made up of Dasan Telford, Robin Cheema, Galen Kornowaske and Varrick Anderson, took second with a combined time of 8:30.35. On the field, senior Greg Tullio took fifth in the shot put after throwing it 46 feet, 8.5 inches.

GIRLS

Senior Madelayne Varela took second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.67 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters at 26.62. She also got third in the long jump after leaping 17 feet, three inches.

The Conks 4X800 relay team, comprised of Nicole Charlton, Jessica Roberts, Haley Higgins and Tessa Carlin, took fifth with a time of 10:43.52.

On the field, senior Alyx Toeaina won the shot put and the discus after throwing them 40 feet, seven inches and 131 feet, eight inches respectively. Junior Beth Parrish won the pole vault after vaulting 10 feet, seven inches.

 

KENTLAKE

BOYS

Sophomore Matt Dispenza took third in the high jump with a leap of six feet, two inches.
