Home runs were the story of the game Tuesday for Tahoma in a 9-0 win over Kentwood. Led by first baseman Lisa Maulden's pair of homers, the Bears bats heated up for the first time since its season opener in March, as catcher Shelby Carter and Jordan Walley also went yard.

Led by first baseman Lisa Maulden’s pair of homers, the Bears’ bats heated up for the first time since its season opener in March, as catcher Shelby Carter and Jordan Walley also went yard.

Tahoma jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Maulden hit a solo shot followed two batters later by Walley’s bomb.

Maulden finished the game 3-for-3 with with 4 RBIs. Walley was 1-for-3 and Carter was 2-for-4. Pitcher Sammii Jimenez threw a complete game for the victory.

Tahoma also put away Auburn last Wednesday 5-3.

The pair of wins kept Tahoma solidly in second place in the South Puget Sound League North Division. The Bears are at 7-1 in league play after Tuesday’s win.

Kentwood drops to fourth place with a 5-3 record.

Tahoma took on Thomas Jefferson on Wednesday, after the Reporter’s deadline, then travels to Kentwood on Thursday followed by a non-league match up against Bothell on Friday.

Meanwhile, division leader Kentlake remained undefeated with a 10-0 victory over Mount Rainier this past Saturday and a 17-2 win over Auburn at home Tuesday night.

In the game against Mount Rainier, shortstop Erika Smyth went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while catcher Brittany Styger hit her fifth home run in three games on 3-for-3 at the plate.

Against Auburn Styger went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Libby Riehl went 2-for-2 and Brittany Jacobsen put together a 3-for-3 outing at the plate.

The Falcons are 7-0 in league and are currently in sole possession of first place.

Kentlake takes on Kentridge on Wednesday, Auburn on Thursday and Mount Rainier on Friday.

Kentwood’s loss to Tahoma came after back to back wins over Kentridge and Auburn.

The Conquerors put the Chargers away 11-1 on April 12 then crushed the Trojans 20-3 on Monday.

In the victory over Auburn, Reagan Rudisill went 4-for4 with 3 RBIs while Hannah Feist went 2-for-4 with a pair of triples and 6 RBIs.

Next up for Kentwood after Tahoma on Thursday is a re-match with Auburn on Friday.
