Gold, silver, bronze medals come home from state | Track and Field

The 2015 4A track and field state championship was held at Mount Tahoma High School May 28 to May 30.

Kentwood

Boys

The Kentwood boys team took ninth with 24 points bringing home a gold and sliver in individual events.

Standing on the top step for the gold was Brandon Stribling in the long jump reaching a distance of 23 feet, .75 inches.

Stribling also ran eighth in the 100 meters dash in 11.29 second.

Senior Bailey Paladin finished in seventh place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.09.

Paladin also finished seventh overall in the 200 meter dash with 22.60.

Senior Joe Ziller finished eighth in the 300 meter hurdles with 40.21.

The 4×100 meter relay team finished in second place with 41.84.

Running on the relay team was junior Connor Benson, Stribling, senior Kaleb Swain, Paladin, junior Isiah Williams and sophomore Reese Paladin.

Girls

The girls team came in 16th with 17 points with an individual championship and a bronze.

Winning the gold medal in the long jump at a distance of 18-00.25 was junior Brittany Woke.

Woke also won bronze in the triple jump reaching 38-07.25.

For the Conks, the 4×100 meter relay team finished in eighth place with 49.70.

On the relay team is senior Malea Munoz, senior Amari Leander, junior Zaria Jones, sophomore Bebe Thomas, freshman Hailey Suit and freshman Ayanna Hollis.

Kentlake

Girls

Senior Lizzy Reichlinger finished fourth overall in the pole vault with  clearing11-06.00.

Reichlinger said the state meet was “super fun” and by far her best year. She said her goal was to clear 11-06, which she did.

Her routine was to practice four to five days a week about two hours a day on the pole vault. She would follow that with strength training.

Falcon junior Avalyne Peters finished sixth in the high jump with 5-02.00.

Tahoma

Girls

The Tahoma girls team finished fifth with 40 points. Individually the girls brought home a gold, a couple of silver medals and a bronze.

Sophomore Ginny Mehl won the gold in the shot put throwing for 42-05.50.

Mehl also placed ninth in the discus throw with 108-00.

Sophomore Olivia Ribera took the silver in two running events.

She ran second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.22.

Ribera also finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.05.

Ribera came in seventh place in the long jump with a distance of 17-07.75.

Alice Jensen placed third in 3,200 meters run with a time of 10:40.80.

She took ninth in the 1,600 with 5:04.48.

Senior Delaney Tiernan finished fourth in the 1,600 with 4:59.51 and senior Amanda Kiefer took 16th place with 5:27.32. Kiefer finished 13th overall in the 3,200 with a time of 11:43.91.

Senior Elizabeth Zosel finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 116-06.

Boys

The Tahoma boys took 11th as a team with a couple bronze and numerous appearances in the finals.

Junior Deszmon Humphries finished third in shot put with a distance of 53-10.75.

Humphries also finished eighth in the discus throw with 149-10.

Junior Graeme Schroeder finished eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.19.

Schroeder also finished eighth in the 1600 meter run.

His time was 4:18.43.

Junior Tristan Houser finished in 11th place in the 1600 meter with a time of 4:20.35.

In the 3200 meter run, junior Keegan Fitzpatrick finished 15th with a time of 9:55.89.

Junior Caleb Brown came in eighth place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.94.

The 4×400 meter relay team with alternates took the bronze with a time of 3:22.11

Making up the relay team is Schroeder, senior Jacob Contreras, junior Austin Brown, senior Jordan White, junior Andrew Klair and Houser.

Caleb Brown came in fifth in the long jump with a length of 21-10.50.

Senior Kingston Suka followed behind Humphries finishing ninth with 147-11.

And senior Alex Cielo came in ninth in the javelin throw with 169-06.
