They’ve been two of the state’s best female wrestlers in each of the last two years.
Nothing changed on Friday for Kentwood’s Jolene Crook-Meyers and Antonia Navejas. Crook-Meyers barely broke a sweat during Friday’s subdistrict tournament at Thomas Jefferson High. Crook-Meyers worked over a pair of opponents — needing a total of 1:19 to dispatch both — en route to snagging a first-place medal in the 140-pound weight class.
Not to be outdone, Navejas also worked a pair of pins to bring home the title at 152 pounds.
The championship performances helped both Kentwood wrestlers punch their tickets to Saturday’s Region III tournament at Emerald Ridge High in Puyallup.
Also advancing to the regional tournament will be Kent-Meridian’s Elizabeth Stone, who bagged a third-place finish at 103.
