Tahoma’s girls swim team has gotten off to a good start this season and senior co-captain Jordan Hoglund couldn’t be more pleased.
“The first two meets, we completely dominated,” Hoglund said. “It was really good. This team, we’re really unified and we all really care about swimming, so that’s a bonus.”
After putting away South Puget Sound League North Division rivals Auburn and Auburn Riverside in back to back meets on Sept. 15 and Sept. 22, Hoglund said, she feels like the team is ready to take on the rest of the division.
“Now that we’ve done the easiest teams, we know we have to swim our best against the tougher teams,” she said. “Knowing how much we support each other, I don’t think we’re going to have any problems beating the other teams.”
Hoglund’s confidence in her Tahoma teammates is grounded in the time they put in the pool, including early morning practices on Saturdays.
“We’re probably the only team that goes six days a week, and I think that’s a bonus for us, too,” she said. “It’s good because when everyone shows up that early and they’re that dedicated, it really boosts the morale of the team.”
Before they dive back into SPSL action, the Bears have some non-league meets on the calendar.
Tahoma competes in the Autumn Relays on Friday at Rogers High School followed up by the South Kitsap Invitational Saturday morning then takes on Kentridge on Oct. 1 and Kentwood Oct. 15. The Bears wrap up the league schedule against Kentlake on Oct. 20.
