GIRLS BASKETBALL: KW clinches state berth; Kentlake eliminated

The Kentwood girls basketball team continued to roll along Friday night.

This time, that roll took the second-ranked Conquerors right over Puyallup, 68-38, in a West Central District III game at Puyallup High.

The win helped Kentwood (23-0) clinch a state berth, its fourth straight.

That said, the work isn’t finished at the district tournament for the Conquerors. Kentwood plays Mount Tahoma at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night at Puyallup High for a berth into the district tournament championship game. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Auburn Riverside/Federal Way game at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Puyallup High for the district title.

The Conquerors opened the district tournament last Wednesday with a 83-36 throttling of Bethel. Jessie Genger and Kylie Huerta each scored 17 points in the win.

Lindsey Moore led the way in the state-clinching victory over Puyallup, pouring in a team-high 18 points.

KENTLAKE ELIMINATED

The district tournament proved to be a quick one for the Kentlake High girls basketball team.

The Falcons (12-11) opened the tournament last Wednesday with a 54-25 loss to Bellarmine Prep. Kentlake was unable to stave off elimination two days later, falling to South Puget Sound League rival Jefferson, 41-36.

Morganne Comstock led the way in both games, scoring 16 points against Bellarmine Prep and then dropping in nine against Jefferson. No other Falcon player reached double figures in either game.
