Brothers Carter and Davis Galgano, senior and sophomore at Tahoma High School, are the only South Puget Sound League North team to qualify for the tennis state tournament after the district tournament.

The Galganos contributed to a successful season for Tahoma boys tennis, which finished third as a team in league.

“I think our team was just a great team because really we could put anyone at any position, and really that’s what we did all year long. We could perform at a high level with any kind of combination. That really kind of shows the strength of our team this year,” said coach David Reynoldson, who has led boys tennis at Tahoma for 13 years.

The combination of Carter and Davis, tried out last year, was part of the shuffling that took place. Carter began the season at singles while Davis played doubles. When the team beat Kentridge — which handed the Chargers only loss of the season and their first in seven years — the Galgano brothers had not yet joined forces.

“It was a team effort,” Reynoldson said of the victory over Kentridge. “Everyone did their job.”

About half way through league play, the Galgano brothers came to Reynoldson wanting to team up again.

“They kind of figured out how to help each other out as best they can and be successful,” Reynoldson said. “Being family was kind of nice, they were really supportive of each other.” Davis agrees that their relationship has its advantages on the court.

“We know what the other is thinking and what we need to do to pick them up,” Davis said.

The Galgano brothers finished sixth in the district tennis tournament Nov. 1-2 and will play in the state 4A doubles tournament May 30-31 in Richland.

Of Tahoma’s 10 varsity players, nine are seniors, which puts some pressure on the younger Galgano as the sole returning varsity player next year. This team of seniors put up big wins against Kentridge and Auburn Riverside. Players like senior Joe Joe Jimenez, who went undefeated in league play this season, have helped Tahoma tennis turn it around the past two seasons.

“I’m glad I’ve got Davis who can lead the next group,” Reynoldson said. “I’ll have him the next couple years to help lead the guys coming in and to help them be as good as these guys. One experience is back, that’s going to help us be stronger.”
