The Bears battled to the end, but the Tahoma football squad came up short in a 24-14 loss on the road to Federal Way.
The Eagles handed the Bears its second South Puget Sound League, North Division loss of the season. The Bears are 3-2 in league and the Eagles are 2-2.
It was a trench war from the first play with the Bears running effectively behind Niko Madison and Jeff Thompson, but crossing the goal line was not in the cards for the second half.
The Bears defense stopped the Eagles potent passing attack most of the second half, except for one corner route in the fourth.
The Eagles Nick Tanielu hit Alden Coleman in the corner of the end zone on a 22-yard strike, which proved to be the winning margin for the night.
In the first frame the Eagle scored 10 and the Bears seven on a Niko Madison 34-yard run.
Isiah Umipig broke free giving the Eagles six on a 50-yard dash and Kelyn Rowe scored a 25-yard field goal for Federal Way’s 10.
Madison hit again on a 4-yard blast in the second, but the Trenton Pinson crossed the line for the Eagles to give Federal Way the edge at the half 17-14.
Next up for the Bears will be Kentridge, 7 p.m. Friday at French Field.
The Chargers are coming off a 28-14 loss to Auburn. Kentridge has a 3-1 league record.
