Feels Like Rain sprinted to the early lead and never looked back notching a 3 ¼-length victory Friday in the $11,100 Tacoma Rainiers Purse for 3-year-old fillies at Emerald Downs.
With apprentice jockey Pedro Terrero riding at 112 pounds, Feels Like Rain ran one mile in 1 minute, 37 4/5 seconds on a wet-fast track and paid $7, $3.20 and $2.60. A triple winner in 2009 as a 2 year old, Feels Like Rain won for the first time in three starts this year for trainer Doris Harwood and trainer Jeff Harwood.
Breaking from the No. 1 post position, Feels Like Rain led through fractions of 23 2/5, 47 3/5 and 1:12 2/5. She spurted away on the last turn, led by two lengths into the stretch, and held off Wild Gypsie in the final furlong.
Wild Gypsie, a 9-1 long shot ridden by Anne Von Rosen at 113 pounds, finished second and returned $7 and $3.60. Raebella, Ricky Frazier riding at 119 lbs., rallied inside for third place and paid $2.60.
A Kentucky-bred by 2002 champion 2-year-old Vindication, Feels Like Rain has compiled a 4-1-1 mark in 10 starts with earnings of $28,086. Friday’s race was her first around two turns, and she took advantage of the inside post-position, which produced all three winners in one-mile races Friday.
