Tahoma’s girls cross country squad continues to cruise this season having won its first two South Puget Sound League 4A North Division dual meets as well as the Fort Steilacoom Invitational on Sept. 19.
After kicking off the season with the Tahoma Co-Ed Relays at Lake Wilderness Park on Sept. 12, the Bears took on Kent-Meridian the following Wednesday, with the girls cruising to a win as nine of the top 10 finishers were Tahoma runners, led by sophomore Juliana Mock clocking in at 19:40.
The Bears boys squad lost 27-28 to the Royals as Kent-Meridian took three of the top four spots. Senior Casey Campbell finished the race first with a time of 16:41.
On Sept. 19, the Bears traveled to the Fort Steilacoom Invitational, and the girls won the event as senior Hannah Mittelstaedt finished fifth, Mock finished sixth and Elizabeth Oosterhout finished seventh.
Campbell finished second overall, posting the best finish for the boys at the invitational.
Both the boys and girls won in Tahoma’s second league meet on Sept. 23 against Auburn.
Mock again led the girls squad followed closely by senior Blair Slater. Both posted a time of 20:40 against the Trojans.
Campbell again paced the boys followed closely by freshman James Dagley and senior Daniel Duffy.

Oosterhout and Mock came in 16th and 17th in the Jim Danner Championships, which features runners from teams that will finish in the top half of their league, in a field of 118 runners while senior Whitney Janicki posted the best finish for the Bears in the Division 1 varsity race crossing the finish line in 28th.
On the boys side, Cambpell finished ninth in the Jim Danner Championships, posting a time of 15:44.7.
Next up on the schedule for Tahoma was another SPSL dual meet against Kentridge on Wednesday after the Reporter’s press deadline. On Saturday the Bears will head to another big meet in the Sunfair Invitational in Yakima.
