The Maple Valley Bombers 8 and Under Select baseball team came out as champions from the 2009 West Seattle Hardball Classic June 26-28.

The team won six straight games in the tournament leading up to the championship contest. The Bombers were the No. 1 seed going into Sunday’s single elimination championship game against the Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Association Blue Thunder.

The Bombers went on to win the game 16-7, becoming the first team from Maple Valley to win this tournament.

A pair of Bomber players took home individual honors, as well.

Michael Alar won the home run derby easily scoring 19 points, notching seven more points than his the second place finisher.

Caiden Gelowicz was awarded the first-place trophy for the pitching competition scoring six points and beating out the second place finisher by four.

The members of the team are Adam Campbell, Angel Guzman, Braden Threlkeld, Bronson Burton, Caiden Gelowicz, Connor McGuire, Jacob Woodall, J.J. Gerarden, Jordan Taylor, Landon Laramore, Michael Alar, Nikolas Hendrickson, and Trace Halvorson.
