Bogachiel defeats elders in Johnsonville Purse at Emerald Downs | Horse Racing

Bogachiel took control early and poured it on late for a seven-length victory Friday in the $15,100 Johnsonville Purse at Emerald Downs. The only 3-year-old in the race, Bogachiel ran 6-½ furlongs in 1 minute, 14 4/5 seconds on a fast track and paid $11.40, $6 and $2.80. Apprentice Pedro Terrero was aboard the winner for trainer Bonnie Jenne and owner-breeder Frank McDonald of Marysville.

A Washington-bred by red-hot sire Harbor the Gold, Bogachiel earned $8,305 to increase his bankroll to $24,586. The gelding, whose previous start was at one mile in the Pepsi-Cola Handicap, has compiled a 2-2-0 record in eight starts overall.

Dress Code, ridden by Kevin Krigger, rallied for second and paid $4.80 and $2.20. It was one length back to Emancipated, the 13-to-10 betting favorite ridden by Gallyn Mitchell, and a $2.10 show payoff.

Game Fever and Victory Knock completed the order of finish.

Bogachiel rushed up inside to take the lead from Emancipated, set fractions of :22 and :44 1/5, drew four lengths clear into the stretch, and was in hand late while increasing his advantage.

News and Notes

Gallant Son worked three furlongs in :36 Friday morning at Del Mar, third fastest at the distance, and is scheduled to ship to Emerald Downs on Tuesday in advance of the $250,000 Longacres Mile (GIII) on Sunday, Aug. 22.

Terrero was suspended two days (Aug. 14 & 15) for causing interference while riding Roxy Skylar in the fourth race Sunday, Aug. 1.

Trainer Brian Ramerman picked up his first winner of the meet as Ballerina’s Beau scored a $42.40 upset in the second race.

Apprentices rode both halves of the late double as I’m All Out, far and away the longest shot on the board, scored a $31.60 upset in the nightcap under Leonel Camacho-Flores…Krigger rode two more winners after tripling Thursday and is tied with Terrero for fifth in the jockeys’ standings at 46 wins apiece….
