Animal shelter cartoon spiteful and unfair

It hurt very much for your paper to portray King County Animal Control in such a light in a political cartoon in the March 29 issue on the Opinion page. Without permission to do so or even a visit to see if it is really true, your paper made it look like we were neglecting the animals.

Since I work in the very close proximity of the “caged” animals and see daily what goes on, I invite you to do the same. I hope you don’t make fun of handicapped people in this way also without at least finding out more about the problem (and I am classified as handicapped).

People think we automatically euthanize animals if the owner isn’t found. That is not the case and is only done if an animal is too sick or injured to help, or is so aggressive/vicious that it cannot be retrained. I am trying to educate the public. I only speak for myself, and not on the couny’s behalf, but that was really hurtful, spiteful and unfair. Thanks for listening.
