June Kuhuski, 93
June Corkins Kuhuski, age 93 of Maple Valley, passed away on December 14, 2013.
June was born to the late James and Elsie Corkins on October 8, 1920, in Bryant, WA. She was a lifelong resident of the Maple Valley area.
June once shared that her secret to a good old age was to never stop moving. She was an active woman throughout her life enjoying league bowling, golf, music, travel, and above all, spending time with friends and family. She volunteered for many years at the Black Diamond Senior Center, cancer centers and several other organizations. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was also a member of the Moose and Eagles Women’s Auxiliary where she served twice as local president for Black Diamond, once as state president, and received the Golden Eagle award in recognition of 50 years of membership.
June was truly one of a kind. She was diagnosed with cancer and given six weeks to live in 1961. She defied the odds and continued to surprise the medical community her entire life. Determined, funny, perceptive, and quick-witted, June was a remarkable woman who lived fiercely, inspired many, and most certainly did it her way.
June is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Alexander (Sam) Kuhuski and daughter, Karen. She is survived by children, Jim Kuhuski (Cindy Schlecht), Sam Kuhuski (SuzAnne), Sandi Franz (Art), and Arlene Johnson Sayward (Chuck), 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Black Diamond Eagles, 32618 Railroad Ave, Black Diamond, WA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The family of June Kuhuski wishes to thank the caring staff at Parkside Retirement Community for their kindness, compassion, and support.
