Darrell Boyd Bass, 53, died May 30, 2009 in Covington, Wash.
He was born in Nash County, N.C. on March 8, 1956, the son of Dixie Whitley Bass of Nashville and the late Simon Kinlaw Bass.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Nash County at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 with Pastor Frankie Carroll officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church annex.
Darrell is survived by his son, Dana Austin Bass of Federal Way.; the mother of his children, Paulina P. Bass of Federal Way, Wash.; sister, Mary Beth Hamlin and partner Norman Batterton, of Castalia N.C.; brothers, Jerry W. Bass and Robert A. Bass, both of Nashville N.C.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kinlaw Jack Bass, daughter, Makala Rose, and sister, Vicki Rose Bass.
A memorial celebration of his life was held for family and friends on Friday, June 5, 2009 in the home of Ed and Julie Pagan in Federal Way.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, and was a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer, First Engineer.
A lover of life, Darrell “Papi” Bass breathed deeply of far away lands and held for only moments the salted seas.
Buddy climbed his mountain. He loved his son. FWE.
