Woman flees house fire in Covington

Firefighters from Maple Valley and Kent were called to the scene of a house fire at about 11:10 p.m. Saturday in the 25800 block of 177th Place Southeast in Covington. The homeowner, a woman, had to run from the house to a neighbor's residence to call 911 according to press release from the Kent Fire Department.

Deputy Fire Marshal Don Barberie said the woman was “sent to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation,” but she was not seriously injured.

According to the fire department spokesman, the house was severely damaged from fire, smoke and heat. Firefighters reported hearing fire alarms inside the home as they fought the blaze. Nearby homes were not damaged.

Barberie said the fire was “still under investigation.”

The American Red Cross was contacted to provide aid to the homeowner.
