The National Weather Service has issued a winter snow advisory for the Seattle area today, Feb. 24. Snow fell over night around the Covington, Maple Valley and Black Diamond area with some places reporting four inches or more.

Snow fell over night around the Covington, Maple Valley and Black Diamond area with some places reporting four inches or more.

The Kent School District canceled all classes and activities. The Tahoma and Enumclaw school districts are on mid-winter breaks.

The weather service is forecasting two more inches of snow may fall during the morning hours.

Compact snow and ice on the roads makes driving very dangerous.

The winter storm warning for heavy snow fall issued by the weather service last night has ended.

The weather service forecast for today through Monday:

  • Today: Snow showers, mainly before 4pm. High near 32. Southeast wind between 5 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Tonight: Scattered snow showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. East southeast wind between 15 and 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. 
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. East northeast wind between 8 and 11 mph. 
  • Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 18. East northeast wind between 3 and 6 mph. 
  • Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 37. South wind between 5 and 7 mph. 
  • Saturday Night: Snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible. 
  • Sunday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Sunday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 35. 
  • Monday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 45.
