A second wind storm in less than a week battered the south King County region early Saturday morning, Dec. 18, hitting the Black Diamond, Maple Valley and Covington area with gusts over 50 mph.

Enumclaw was hit with winds topping 60 mph and numerous trees were down on lines along state Route 169 past Thunder Mountain Middle School.

Electricity was out in numerous spots around Black Diamond, Maple Valley and Covington. Trees were down on lines just before and after the Green River Bridge on SR 169.

Mike Lovell, who lives on 324th Avenue Southeast outside Black Diamond said, “the wind blew the roof off my carport and the power went on and off.”

Lovell said he thought the wind hit about 50 mph at his home.

The region was hit with a wind storm with heavy rains Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 13 and 14.

During that storm the roof blew off of a TRM Wood Products lumber storage building at Four Corners in Maple Valley and the heavy rains caused the Jenkins Creek Park footbridge in Covington to collapse.

The first day of winter is Tuesday, Dec. 21.

High winds knocked this tree down into the power lines on 324th Avenue Southeast in Black Diamond.
