On Nov. 29, just after the first snowfall of the season, about 15 volunteers helped the city of Maple Valley and the Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation install hundreds of lights around Lake Wilderness Park in preparation for the 12th annual Holiday Lights at the Lodge.
Longtime Arboretum volunteer Lei Rogala designed the entire light display and Mark Ratcliffe led a volunteer team from the City, creating a maze of beauty and charm for kids and grown-ups to enjoy. The display transforms Lake Wilderness Lodge into a festive castle, while the Smith-Mossman Azalea Garden turns into a glittering walk where snowmen, penguins and polar bears greet guests.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the lights were turned on, as Santa Claus made a visit to Lake Wilderness Park and families were treated to holiday treats, hot chocolate and the familiar sounds of the season.
Thanks to sponsors Fred Meyer, Good Chevrolet, Smith Brothers Farms, Taco Time, Starbucks, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, Costco and Maple Valley Fitness, the holiday lights glow in the park every night until New Year’s Day.
