The arrival of spring brings increased activity and interest to Lake Wilderness Arboretum.

Starting April 19, the Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation is offering free guided walks led by trained volunteers called docents. On the third Saturday of each month through October, docent tours start at the gazebo on the grounds at 10 a.m. and continue through more than a dozen acres of the arboretum’s display gardens and collections.

Docents are knowledgeable in the history and details of each garden. The arboretum also features a 26-acre second growth forest with almost a mile and a half of marked trails that provide easy walking for people and pets.

The time commitment for docent training and leading walks is about four to eight hours a month from January to October, says docent co-chairman Cindy Ostermann. Those interested in volunteering can email the arboretum at tours@lakewildernessarboretum.org for more information.
