The Girl Scouts annual day camp is set for Aug. 2-6 in Maple Valley.
The focus this year will be on all things “Wild” – wild plants, wild life and the wilderness.
Pattie Warr, camp director, said, “All camp and leadership skills are taught in an age-appropriate progression with the girls learning a little bit more every year. Many of our campers continue on to be program aides, senior aides and then leaders-in-training (LIT) at our camp. The LIT’s are high school and college age girls that are in charge of a unit and plan much of the programming. It’s a great environment for these young ladies to utilize all the skills they’ve learned along the way. They have so many creative ideas and so much energy, our campers think they are the greatest, and they are.”
Girls in first through sixth grade work on developing social and physical skills, gaining independence and challenging their imagination during camp. The camp offers crafts, cooking and science units as well as the popular climbing wall.
Kids also learn traditional outdoor skills, practice new songs and enjoy a day of wide games. Girls in fourth through sixth grade participate in one of two archery courses and spend the night outdoors in tents on Thursday.
An all camp barbeque and special program on Friday will close the week.
The camp utilizes a “by girls, for girls” approach.
