Washington Healthplanfinder released a comprehensive data report that provides more detailed information regarding Washington State residents who newly enrolled in health coverage from Oct. 1 – Dec. 31.

The report contains information about enrollees including their age ranges, enrollment by county and even enrollments by health plan metal level such as gold, silver and bronze.

Some of the key takeaways from the report include: Enrollments in qualified health plans (private health plans) saw an increase from 20,144 in November to 67,198 in the month of December, a 233 percent increase in enrollment. This surge is due to a Dec. 23, 2013 deadline for coverage that began on Jan. 1.

A total of 2,868 children under the age of 18 were enrolled in a pediatric dental plan through Washington Healthplanfinder. This does not include those who received pediatric dental benefits through Washington Apple Health.

Silver level private health plans continued to be the most popular plan level in the month of December, garnering more than 55 percent of enrollments. More than 77 percent of enrollees in silver plans were eligible for cost-sharing subsidies, a form of financial help that lowers additional out of pocket costs such as copays and deductibles. These cost-sharing subsidies can only be accessed through a silver level plan under the Affordable Care Act.

With the addition of more than 200 customer support representatives since Oct. 1, the call center was able to handle nearly twice the number of phone calls in December. In November, 34,614 calls were handled while 66,714 calls were handled in December.

An additional 100 to 150 representatives will be added by mid-February to further increase this number.

More than 14,500 enrollees in qualified health plans and more than 77,000 enrollees in Washington Health Apple Health were between the ages of 18 to 34.
