The World of Miro

Art Historian Susan Olds will present of a preview of the exhibit on surrealist artist Joan Miro that is currently at the Seattle Art Museum.
The World of Miró will include the artist’s early life, artistic influences, diary entries and letters, association with the surrealists, experiments in abstraction and cubism, automatic drawing, creation of his unique constellation series and development of his later body of work.

Local author Daniel James Brown will discuss his latest book, New York Times bestseller, The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Olympics called “A thrilling, heart-pumping tale…packed with suspense and a likable bunch of underdogs.” by author Timothy Egan.
The boys in the boat features nine members of the University of Washington crew and their individual and collective struggles to reach the pinnacle of their sport. The emotional center of the book is Joe Rantz, a young man who surmounted overwhelming odds to find his place in the boat. Members of Joe’s family will also attend this event to share memories of their father.
