Two dogs died in a house fire on Saturday, May 5 on the 17100 block of Southeast 263 Street.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which was called in by a neighbor at 10:45 a.m. after she saw smoke coming from the back of the two-story house.

Firefighters from Puget Sound Fire and the Maple Valley Fire Department were able to limit the fire damage to the kitchen, but smoke and high heat spread throughout the house. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms did activate.

A Puget Sound Fire Investigator determined that the fire started after one of the dogs hit a burner control on the stove, which ignited combustibles on or near the stove top.
