A new adventure, character, and leadership movement for young men will be standing up in our area in the next few months. Trail Life USA is an outdoor adventure program for young men in grades K-12 with a distinctively Christian character.

An information meeting about Trail Life for youth, parents, pastors, youth leaders, and churches who are interested in starting a Trail Life unit will take place on Oct. 28th at Peace Lutheran Church, 18615 SE 272nd St, in Covington at 7 p.m. Trail Life is inviting all youth, parents, and interested church leaders from all of King County to join them for this meeting.

The Trail Life program centers on outdoor experiences that build a young man’s skills and allow him to grow on a personal level and as a role model and leader for his peers.  As young men progress through the various levels of the Trail Life USA program, they take part in camping, leadership development, rank advancements, awards, a trail badge program, community service, summer adventures, spiritual training, and a variety of special program offerings.

Many of our Charter Partners and members are joining us following previous involvement in the Boy Scout program. For them, it is comforting to know that existing BSA ranks, awards, merit badges, and training will be readily transferable to this new program.

The new group will have a strong inclusion policy—all boys are welcome to the program regardless of religion, race, national origin or socio-economic status. However, adult leaders in the program will be Christian and must sign a statement of faith and submit to background checks. Both boys and adults will be required to adhere to a code of conduct and agree to live by Trail Life Values.

The local branch of Trail Life, Trail Life Washington, welcomes inquiries.  For more information about this meeting, Trail Life, or for information on how to start a Trail Life Troop, please contact Trail Life Washington via their webpage www.traillifeusa-wa.com or email at traillifenw@gmail.com
