Outdoor movie night coming soon
On Saturday, July 8, Ravensdale Park will be showing “The Sandlot.”
The movie will begin at dusk and will be played on a 40 foot tall inflatable screen. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Drum and bugle corps coming
to Maple Valley
The Columbians, a group from the Tricities, will be stopping at Tahoma Middle School on their way to the Seattle Summer Music Games on July 8.
The group will be rehearsing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the community is welcome to watch.
Covington swim team has new coach
The Seahorses swim team welcomed a new coach for the 2017 season. Allessandra Losacco grew up in Covington and graduated from Kentlake High School and has returned for the summer’s swim season.
Losacco was captain of the Falcons swim team for two years and started working at the Covington Aquatic Center in 2015.
As a coach, she said in a release, she plans to promote:
• A safe and fun learning experience;
• Sportsmanship and encouragement amongst participants and
• A positive “jump-in” mentality.
She currently attends Western Washington University and is studying environmental science.
The Seahorses was started in 2015 and has 80 members this year made up of ages 6 to 18.
The team competes against the Federal Way Sting Rays and the Auburn Aqua Seals.
Teen completes youth academy
Darian White from Renton graduated June 17 from the Washington Youth Academy in Bremerton.
The school helps at-risk teens and teaches them job skills and life-coping mechanisms, according to a media release.
The release added he will return to Kentwood High School where he will now “be better equipped to get his high school diploma.”
Summer commute traffic delays
Drivers will face more delays this summer along Interstate 5 northbound between Kent and Tukwila.
Northbound will be reduced to two lanes between state Route 516 in Kent and Southcenter Parkway in Tukwila from 8 p.m. Friday, July 7 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 10, to repave the lanes.
Crews will not work on the project the weekend of June 30 to July 2.
Drivers have faced up to 60-minute delays between SeaTac and Tukwila, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The state advises drivers to find alternate routes.
The weekend closures are scheduled to continue July 14-17.
