The Black Diamond Community Center is looking for new board members.

The board meets the second Monday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the community center.

Board members oversee the executive director, staff and activities. As well as helping plan and collect donations for fundraising events.

How to get funding from 4Culture

From noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the Covington Library, community members are welcome to come learn how they can receive support for creative projects through 4Culture’s grant program.

The deadline to apply by is March 6.

Model homes open Saturday

Eight new model homes will be open Saturday, Jan. 26 at Ten Trails in Black Diamond.

The grand opening will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with activities for everyone to enjoy. The event will take place at the intersection of Willow Avenue Southeast and Southeast Stevens Street.

City wins achievement award

The city of Covington announced Jan. 18 it was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, according to a media release.

The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, the release continued.

The city’s finance department also received an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for their contributions to the reporting process, according to the release.

Two master classes remain

The Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra is offering free master classes to students who currently play or are thinking of playing an instrument.

Two classes remain including Viola Master Class with instructor Daniel Wing.

The class is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28.

The last master class — Cello Master Class with instructor Brian Wharton — will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4.

Wrestler commits to D1 program

Justin Hoyle, from Maple Valley, a senior wrestler for the Wyoming Seminary Blue Knights will continue wrestling at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York in fall 2019.
