Officials from the Tahoma School District are forming a committee to evaluate adjusting elementary attendance boundaries.
The district needs volunteers to serve on the committee, which will be made up of parents and other community members, according to district spokesman Kevin Patterson.
“The purpose of adjusting elementary attendance boundaries is to relieve crowding at Glacier Park and Lake Wilderness elementary schools by shifting as many as 120 students to Rock Creek and Shadow Lake elementary schools,” Patterson said in a release.
There needs to be at least 10 members on the committee with two representatives coming from each school board director’s district. Alternates may also be chosen and names of applicants will be placed in a lottery. The board will select members by random draw on March 9.
The first committee meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, in the board room at Central Services Center.
At least two more meetings are scheduled for March 18 and March 25 as the committee considers boundary changes.
Public meetings are set for April 14 and 19 to gather input on proposals to boundary changes. The committee will meet again on April 22 to review comments from the public meetings and to reach consensus on proposed boundary changes.
A proposed boundary adjustment plan will be presented by the committee to the school board on April 27 with the board taking final action on May 11.
