Tahoma grad graduates basic training

U.S. Air Force Airman Jason Wonio graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas.

He completed an “intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills,” a media release stated.

His parents currently live in Renton. Wonio graduated from Tahoma High School in 2014.

Ribbon cutting for new apartments

The Maple Valley Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce will be holding a city and chamber officials ribbon cutting and reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the Monarch Apartments in Maple Valley.

The ribbon cutting is scheduled to take place at 2:15 p.m.

Auditions begin in January

The Maple Valley Youth Symphony is holding auditions for four levels of orchestra beginning this month.

Seats are available in Debut, Philharmonia, Jr. Symphony and Symphony Orchestras.

The Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council has its monthly meeting scheduled for 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at Maple Valley Fire Station No. 81.

• The Maple Valley Library is hosting a Getting on Track Workshop from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6.

Hansie Wong, MD, will be in attendance to help people set realistic resolutions, establish intentions and create an outline of goals for the year.

You will also learn to prioritize goals and establish attainable steps to stay on track.

• The Friends of the Covington Library is scheduled to meet from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the Covington Library.

The nonprofit group helps support the library through fundraising, sponsorship of programs and services and increasing the library’s role in the community.
